This week, we moved the teaching out to Svinninge School, where an active construction site formed the framework for a practice-oriented introduction to recycling and sustainable building methods
Here, the apprentices threw themselves into the work of dismantling building masonry – according to pleasing working methods. With a focus on gentle dismantling, they learned how bricks can be preserved and given new life instead of ending up as waste. It requires both technique, patience and a keen eye – and it quickly became clear what the right approach means.
The apprentices' first encounter with selective demolition
Published 30-04-2026Dust in the air, tools in your hands and full concentration – that's how our apprentices' first selective demolition course started.
One of the most demanding tasks of the day was cleaning bricks. With hammer and chisel, the apprentices removed mortar – millimeter by millimeter. Along the way, it became clear how important the different types of mortar are for the work; some come off relatively easily, while others require more time. This emphasized that meticulousness is not just an advantage, but a necessity if the materials are to be recycled.
Of course, safety was in focus all the way – because good craftsmanship is also about taking care of yourself and each other.
What did the apprentices take with them?
- Insight into sustainable construction
- Insight into the work with recycled materials
- Insight into the techniques behind selective demolition and cleaning
It was a day of new challenges and success experiences – and a strong first step into a more sustainable construction industry.
We look forward to following their further journey
