The construction sector accounts for a significant share of climate impact and resource use, while large volumes of materials are still lost as waste. Within the Future Baltic Bauhaus project, partners are working to accelerate the transition towards more circular building processes – and this event marked an important step forward.
The programme highlighted both challenges and opportunities in the transition to a more sustainable construction sector. Presentations addressed key topics such as barriers and enablers for climate transition, practical approaches to integrating reuse into existing processes, and examples of how reuse of materials and installations can be implemented in real projects.
Participants also gained insights into how public actors can support the transition, as well as how new knowledge and skills development initiatives can strengthen circular practices in the industry.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the new digital platform "Byggreturbanken" – a concrete tool designed to enable reuse in the construction sector. The platform makes it possible to identify buildings undergoing transformation that can serve as material banks, and to connect stakeholders interested in reusing building materials. The presentation sparked considerable interest and discussions on its practical application.
In addition to the presentations, the event provided valuable opportunities for dialogue and networking, strengthening collaboration across the sector.
The strong engagement and broad participation clearly demonstrate a shared commitment to change. The next step is to turn this momentum into concrete actions that reduce climate impact and improve resource efficiency in the construction sector.
