Kalmar had the honour of hosting the third steering group meeting in mid-May. The event provided valuable insights, strengthened collaboration among participants, and helped set the stage for future project development.

Day 1 – Analysis, Training, and Learning from Others
The focus was on the various work packages. The first day featured workshops on analysis and education. Participants were also given a guided tour of Malmfjärden and the LIFE SURE project, which combats water pollution by relocating sediment without disturbing the seabed. This innovative method improves water quality and can be adapted to various aquatic environments. The project also explores how sediment can be reused in sustainable and ecological solutions—such as using the sediment to produce paving stones for parking areas.

Day 2 – Communication, Policy Recommendations, and Pilot Projects
The second day focused on communication efforts, political recommendations, and reports on cooperation with other projects.
Pilot projects from Wismar, Holbæk, and Kalmar were presented and received feedback for future development. The pilot initiatives focuses on the reuse of building materials:

  • Holbæk Municipality: Reuse of demolition materials in new construction projects.
  • Wismar University: Planning a second-life workshop for a school made from recycled materials and components.
  • Kalmar Municipality: Exploring the market to better align the supply and demand of reused building materials. Ultimately, the goal is to make all procurements green. Initial steps include testing the market for demolition mapping and establishing a marketplace for reused construction materials.
